Renault Bearing Fitment

Renault Scenic RX4 Center Bearing Removal Guide

These shafts are rather strange in that there are no nuts or bolts holding then together. With a little heat and muscle you can split them to replace the bearings.

Here's how...

You can see that standard pullers can't be used on the RX4 propshaft. The splines are just infront of each centre bearing, see read arrow:

The blue arrow points to the shield ring or splash guard. This ring will be reused or if damaged removed completely as the new bearings are sealed type.

Some sort of press needs be used to put tension on the spline section whilst the area pointed to by the red arrow is heated. For the man at home perhaps a man pulling each end of propshaft will be sufficient whilst a third person applies heat?

This is what it looks like when split and the bearing removed.

The process is slightly easier for the Trekka propshaft. A puller can be used while heating the splines.

Please just make sure you mark both sides before splitting the shaft. It must go back together the same way or you will need to have the shaft balanced.
